Hyderabad: Godavari River Water Board Chairman Chandrasekhar Iyer today said that Telugu states were asked to submit agenda for the apex council meeting to sort out waters issues.
He told media that the officials of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have accepted to give detailed project reports (DPRs) by June 10 on the new projects or those being objected by each other.
Those projects being taken up in any state without technical permission are considered new ones he clarified.
Both states have raised some issues on sharing of waters and the projects and the council meeting will decide he stated. A committee will be formed to decide on fixing telemetry on Godavari river at a specific place. Both states accepted to modernize Pedda Vagu, and Telangana was asked to clarify on AP objections.
Telangana Irrigation principal secretary, Rajat Kumar said that there are no new projects in Godavari basin with 967 tmc allocated share. Kaleshwaram and Thammidihatti are old ones and informed this to the board. Polavaram and Pattiseema in AP got 80 tmc and we need extra allocation he added.
On Thursday, Krishna River Water Management Board (KRMB) Chairman, Paramesham has allocated as usual 66 and 34 per cent of waters to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Both Telugu states agreed to give detailed project reports on the new projects he said.
Chairing the meeting of the officials and engineers of the two states at Jala Saudha in Hyderabad here, he heard of the appeals and complaints of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Both states have agreed to produce each 50 percent of power from the Srisailam project by bearing expenditure besides using only 20 percent waters for drinking.
He disclosed that two Telugu States have agreed upon to submit detailed project reports (DPRs) of new projects and fix telemetry equipment to measure waters released or used. The board has asked them not to start new projects without obtaining permission.
It was also informed to union Jal Shakthi ministry of shifting of AP Godavari waters to Krishna Basin. Both states agreed to inform the central water commission to use only 20 percent of waters for drinking purpose.
