Thane woman claims she got 3 doses of covid vaccine on the same day

Amid a shocking instance, a woman from Thane claimed she was administered 3 covid vaccine shots within 15 mins on the same day.

The incident took place in Maharashtra on Friday after a woman and her husband went to the Anand Nagar vaccination centre to get the vaccine. The 28-year-old alleged she was given 3 doses consecutively. She claimed that no one told her to move from her place after she received her first dose and absurdly, 2 more doses were given to her.

However, the allegation has been denied by the Thane Municipal Corporation which is investigating the matter. They claimed the woman is in sound health and has not been subjected to any problem whatsoever.

There is no information yet about the brand of vaccine that had been given to the woman.

After coming home, the woman developed a fever in the evening and had medicine on the advice of a family doctor, her husband said. He informed the local corporator, Kavita Suresh Patil, of the matter due to fears of complications following the 3 shots.

The woman was soon checked by a team of health professionals headed by the Thane civic body’s health officer Dr Khushboo Tavri.

She added that the team reached for the checkup immediately after they were informed of the matter. Post the examination, the doctor concluded that the woman was completely fine with stable vitals as well. The nurses present at the vaccination centre were also questioned, she said.

As per the woman’s husband, the doctor said it was “just an overdose” and there wasn’t a need to worry over it.

Stressing that he does not want to file a complaint in the matter as his wife is well, he said the authorities helped them. “I am not under any pressure. My wife is fine, I don’t want any trouble,” the husband said.

Thane Municipal Corporation’s Mayor, Naresh Mhaske, said a probe will be conducted to investigate the case and determine the number of shots that were given to the woman. A committee has been formed to enquire the events of the incident, he said, adding that appropriate medical aid has been given to the woman and her husband. Though the injection site shows bruises, no information is available whether or not 3 doses were administered, Mr Mhaske further said.

Chipping in his criticism was BJP corporator Manohar Dumbre who called for immediate action against the staff at the vaccination centre who administered the doses to the 28-year-old woman.

A similar incident had occurred in Bihar on June 19th after a woman was administered with 2 shots- each of Covaxin and Covishield within 5 mins. Sunila Devi is said to be fine and under the observation of a medical team to monitor her health.
