The Munugode district becomes a hotbed for politics

There is no doubt that Munugode is becoming a political hotbed. In advance of the official announcement of the bypoll schedule, political parties are competing to prove their upmanship. Several view this election as the litmus test before the final fight for the Assembly in 2023, so they are giving it all they’ve got.

Regarding the preparations and public outreach, the TRS led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao remains the frontrunner. A public meeting will be held by the Chief Minister on Saturday for the constituents of the Munugode Assembly segment. To make its presence felt, the BJP does not intend to lag behind. For the Congress party, it has become a matter of life or death.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, who is expected to join the BJP. It is expected that Rajgopal Reddy will re-contest the seat, this time on behalf of the BJP.

As a result of the 2018 elections, the TRS lost the Munugode seat to Congress by a narrow margin of 22,500 votes, but the party is confident that it can regain its ground by winning the upcoming byelection. Several meetings have already been held among the party leaders in order to bring the party together in support of a united front. A massive public meeting will be held in the constituency on Saturday by the party president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, where the party candidate is expected to be announced.

According to several surveys conducted in the constituency, the ruling party has an edge, increasing the number of candidates for party tickets. As for their issues, the party leadership has already addressed them and the results will be visible at Saturday’s public meeting,” a senior TRS leader told Telangana Today. A plan has already been drafted to launch the election campaign and contact every beneficiary of government programs to seek their votes.

Moreover, the resignation of its sitting MLA has posed a major problem for the Congress, which treats the bypoll as a prestige issue. The party faces a major challenge as a result of a lack of unity within the party’s leaders and the MP Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, who is also Rajgopala Reddy’s brother. In the event that the party loses the by-election, it will only weaken its position within the State Assembly as well as demoralize its cadre ahead of the assembly elections in 2023.

As for the BJP, it is desperate to make its presence felt in the State and plans to use the bypoll to do so. Consequently, union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to speak at a public meeting on Sunday where Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy is likely to make a formal entrance into the party. Although the BJP barely has any presence in the former Nalgonda district, it heavily relies on the Komatireddys to build its cadre.
