Three Kashmiri students suspended from Agra college for WhatsApp stories on Pak’s win

elebrating an opponent’s win in India is now being considered as a potential terrorist act, as per the latest acts of Uttar Pradesh and J&K government. Since India lost to Pakistan on Sunday, several Kashmiri were on the receiving end of hate and alleged violence for rejoicing on Pakistan’s win or for just being a Kashmiri.

In a fresh development, an engineering college in Agra of Uttar Pradesh suspended three students from Jammu and Kashmir after they allegedly shared stories on WhatsApp applauding the Pakistani cricketers as they attained victory against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup series.

The incident took place in Bichpuri’s Raja Balwant Singh Engineering Campus and the students identified as Inayat Altaf Sheikh, Showkat Ahmed Ganai and Arsheed Yousef were suspended for doing an “indiscipline act”.

According to the college hostel, posting celebrating stories on WhatsApp favouring Pakistan is somehow related to their academic studies and qualifies for a suspension.

The notice sent to the students by Dr Dushyant Singh, the dean of hostels, said, “Therefore the hostel discipline committee has decided to suspend all three of them with immediate effect.”

A police complaint was first filed against the students by the local BJP leaders of the party’s youth wing at the Jagdishpura police station post the share.

The students will also be facing police action as the Agra SP Vikas Kumar confirmed receiving a complaint in the matter. He said that further action will be taken soon.

The suspension letter came soon after on Monday.

Speaking about the benefits the students were receiving for their studies, the director of administration and finance at the college, Dr Pankaj Gupta, said, “The students were studying under the Prime Minister Super Special Scheme. We have also apprised the PM office and AICTE of the students’ act. However, students have apologised.”

The matter escalated after India lost its first-ever World Cup match to Pakistan on 24th October by 10 wickets. While the former scored 151 runs at the loss of 7 wickets with 3 early wickets lost, the latter’s opening duo managed to bat 152 runs in merely 17.5 overs. Virat Kohli and Dhoni were seen interacting with the Pakistan players post the match showcasing the spirit of cricket.

In two separate incidents, two cases were registered against medical students of Srinagar for celebrating the maiden of Pakistan in the same India-Pak match. The female students were booked under the stringent anti-terror law- the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act).

The case was made on the basis of a video where the accused women can be seen expressing their happiness and shouting slogans supporting Pakistan as the team won. The clips were taken from the girl hostels of Shere Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences and Medical College Srinagar.

The acts against Kashmiri students did not stop there as a group of students from Punjab’s Sangrur alleged that the loss to Pakistan also fueled violence against them. They claimed to have been assaulted by some people from Uttar Pradesh in their engineering college. According to the accused, they did so as the Kashmiri students were pro-Pakistan and were supporting its team in Sunday’s match.
