To tackle garbage issue, Plastic Banned imposed in Jalpally

Following instructions from the state government, the Jalpally Municipal officials geared up and rolled out deterrence measures against plastic carry bags and littering menace in the area where heaps of garbage are a common scene every few meters.

Bringing the curtains down over the use of plastic carry bags in the Municipality area, the Commissioner G.P.Kumar said, “Sale of plastic cover, bags, disposable plastic glasses and plates less than 75 micron in thickness will not be alloed henceforth. Any such sales will attract heavy fines and legal action as per the orders being issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India.”

In a separate warning to shopkeepers, the Commissioner said, “Shopkeeper should set up their own bins to store the garbage and handover the same to visiting trash collectors. Any shop owner or person found violating the litter free rules will be charged with heavy fines as per the provisions.

Spreads over an area of 30 square kilometers with a mixed population of around 80,374 people (as per 2011 census), the Jalpally municipality was formed in the year 2016 merging the areas such as Jallapally, Balapur, Kottapet and Pahadi Shareef. The densely populated municipality was divided into a total 28 wards that provide abode to around 23,961 families.

Heaps of garbage every few meters are the common scenes in Jalpally Municipality as there is no garbage management system exists in the area unlike neighbouring Shamshabad and Badangpet Municipalities while several proposal for setting up of dumping yard has fails to yield any result as objections rise by local people always keep them at bay.

Clusters of slums on the city outskirts known as densely populated Muslims areas under the tenacious grip of poverty, families living below the poverty line without proper basic amenities, No proper health care facilities besides unhygienic environment are the social aspects that form the Jalpally Municipality.
