TRS, BJP Are Doing Politics on Paddy Procurement: Revanth Reddy

TPCC president and the party MP A. Revanth Reddy today came down heavily on rival TRS and BJP and alleged that the two parties were doing politics on the issue of the paddy procurement from the farmers of the state and added that they were also playing with the lives of the farmers by their cheap politics.

Reddy made it clear that the Congress party would fight on behalf of the farmers of the state under the leadership of their party leader Rahul Gandhi till their last grain of the paddy was procured by the authorities concerned.  “ What is the KCR government is doing when the center is reluctant to procure the paddy from the farmers of the state. How could (KCR) you not procure the paddy by throwing the blame on the central government? The state government has the responsibility to buy every grain of the paddy,” Reddy said.

Referring to the letter written by CM KCR to the central government stating that they would not supply the parboiled rice to it , he said that the letter had turned out to be a curse for the farmers of the state and added that the central government was making it clear that it would not procure the parboiled rice from the Telangana farmers by citing the letter of the CM. He mocked that no minister of the central government is giving respect to the state cabinet ministers, who are visiting Delhi to meet them on the paddy procurement issue.  He alleged that the ruling TRS party MPs were posing for pictures in the central hall of Parliament instead of fighting on the issue of paddy procurement.  He asked the ruling party leaders why family members of CM KCR like state ministers KTR, Harish Rao and K. Kavitha were not accompanying the delegation of the state ministers during their visit to Delhi to call on the union ministers. Referring to the statement of CM KCR in the state assembly that he would not push the farmers of the state into problems, he asked the CM why he is doing to prevent the problems to the farmers?  Revanth made it clear that the CM could solve the problem by holding discussions with PM Narendra Modi on the issue. He alleged that the TRS party leaders were putting the interests of the farmers in risk in order to make the central government a culprit in the entire issue of paddy procurement. He dared CM KCR to sit for a fast unto death program at Jantar Mantar in Delhi if he really had any commitment to solving the problems of the Telangana farmers and added that the Congress party would make arrangements for the fast unto death program of the CM if required.

Speaking further, Revanth Reddy said that the Congress party would procure every grain of the paddy from the farmers of the state if the state government gave Rs.10,000 crore to them. He asked the state government why it built massive irrigation projects if it was not in a position to procure the paddy from its farmers.

Targeting state industries minister KTR, the TPCC chief that the minister did not have any kind of knowledge about the welfare programs implemented by the Congress party-led state and central governments. Stating he has his full sympathies for the lack of knowledge of KTR, he told the state minister that it was the congress party that had waived off farm loans worth Rs.70,000 crores by a stroke of a pen and added that the Congress party was also responsible for ushering in a green revolution in the country.  He also said that the Congress party had credited Rs.1800 crores directly into the bank accounts of the farmers after realizing that 36 lakh farmers were not benefitted from the crop loan waiver scheme.  He said that they had also provided minimum support prices to different crops. Reddy also said that the Congress party was responsible for the introduction of several revolutionary schemes and acts like MGNREGS, Food security scheme, Right to Education Act, Right to Information Act, Land ceiling Act, and provision of MSP to various crops for the welfare of the people of the country.

He alleged that the ruling TRS party government had taken the lives of 7,000 farmers after coming into power. He made it clear that they were ready to hold any kind of public debate on the welfare programs done by their party with CM KCR and his son KTR. He mocked that minister KTR did not respond to their challenge to show a revolutionary welfare program like the program being implemented by the Congress party-led state government in Chhattisgarh in Telangana state. He said that the Chhattisgarh government was giving Rs.2500 as bonus to its farmers after procuring the paddy from them.
