TRS MPs meet Modi for Defence Lands–Jitender flays Nirmala for deliberate delay

Hyderabad: Mounting pressure on the Centre, Telangana Government today asked it to take a final call on transferring Bison Polo Ground and Gymkhana ground place for construction of New Secretariat and to take up other buildings as part of development.

TRS MP Jithender Reddy today slammed the Centre for making deliberate attempts to avoid giving the Defence lands sought by the state government. A team of TRS MPs delegation led by Jithender Reddy today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appealed on the pending state demand for the defence lands such as Bison Polo Ground and that of Gymkhana grounds for the purpose. Later talking to press persons at the Parliament, Jithender Reddy said that they have urged Modi to take a decision and help the state government to build a new secretariat and other buildings at the defence lands.

Only to delay the issue the Defence Ministry is seeking Rs 95 crore difference value of the land and sought to pay Rs 31.5 crore revenue that comes from the same, he said. On this Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has written a letter to the Centre to exempt compensation as the 560 acres of Jawahar nagar state land to be handed over to it will get some revenue, he said. Consequently, a high power committee gave green signal and Unions Ministers Arun Jaitley and Manohar Parrekar have agreed in principle and gave letters in favour, he explained.

However Nirmala Sitaraman took over as Defence Minister by the time of land transfer to the state government. Nirmala is now trying to create some problems to delay the process while giving immediate response in two days to Karnataka for land transfer, he alleged. As per committee instructions, the State Government has offered 560 acres of its land in Jawahar Nagar area to the Defence wing, he said. Reddy also expressed hope that the Prime Minister is to take a call on the crucial issue. He said that he has reiterated the stance of Telangana on the urgent need for high court bifurcation and keep other promises of AP Bifurcation Act.

Earlier, they also raked up the issue in the Parliament during its session. Jithender Reddy urged the Prime Minister to take a final call on the just demands of the state government which will give other land to it for development works. He said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during his recent visit to Delhi also met with the Prime Minister and sought his decision and cooperation.(NSS)
