TS second in country in paddy procurement; 77.41 LMT paddy from 14.73 lakh farmers

Hyderabad: In 2018-19, Civil Supplies Department achieved a record by making highest procurement, beyond the expectations from farmers in Telangana history. In Kharif and Rabi seasons, it purchased 77.41 Lakh Metric Tons (LMTs) of paddy from 14.73 lakh farmers at Minimum Support Price (Grade-A – Quintal Rs 1510, Common – Quintal Rs 1,470) and paid Rs 13,673 crore through their accounts directly.

In this Kharif season, the Civil Supplies Department purchased 40.41 LMT of paddy from 8,08,885 farmers through 3,297 paddy purchase centers (PPCs) and in Rabi it purchased 37 LMT of paddy from 6,63,723 farmers at 3,509 PPCs. The Telangana State is now at second place next after Punjab in the country. In Kharif and Rabi season, Telangana State procured 77.41 LMT paddy from 14,73,608 farmers at 6,816 PPCs. In the last 2017-18 season, the department bought 53.98 LMT paddy. This year, the procurement is 23.43 LMTs more.

Early years of Telangana State:

In 2014-15, purchased 24.28 LMTs from 3329 centers and paid Rs. 3390.50 Crores.

In 2015-16, purchased 23.56 LMTs from 3007 centers and paid Rs. 3396.97 Crores.

In 2016-17, purchased 53.69 LMTs from 5218 centers and paid Rs. 8089.56 Crores.

In 2017-18, purchased 53.98 LMTs from 6029 centers and paid Rs. 8565.15 Crores.

The credit goes to Chief Minister, said Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, Minister for Civil Supplies. With the implementation of farmer welfare schemes, mainly Rytu Bandhu, Raitu Bheema, 24-hour power supply, new irrigation projects taken up by the Chief Minister.  “This year, we were able to procure paddy from the farmers without any difficulty at record level. With the assurance of getting Minimum Support Price (MSP) at government PPCs, farmers showed more interest at these centers. We made all arrangements to make sure that farmers face no difficulty in selling paddy”, he said. (NSS)
