Two day National Conference on bamboo begins today at NIRDPR

As part of the government initiative to promote bamboo plantation on large scale in the country, the NIRD-PR Rajendranagar is organising two days National Conference on “Dissemination of Innovations in Bamboo Sector for Improving the Rural Economy” that begins here today at NIRD-PR campus.

In order to ensure promotion of Bamboo Plantation on a biblical scale, the government of India launched the restructured National Bamboo Mission in 23 states of the country in the year 2018-19 without eschewing any mention of North Eastern states having known for their bamboo production.

The two day national conference is aimed to disseminate the innovations rolling in Bamboo sector using technology in cultivation, value-addition and promotion besides unique ideas of using bamboo in the construction sector.

The nation conference is being jointly organised by the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD-PR) and Centre for Innovation in Public System (CIPS) at NIRD-PR Campus.

Hoping that the conference will buttress support to start-ups towards sector rejuvenation, the event will ensure equal participation from industry to academia and ultimately connect the stakeholders associated with bamboo cultivation and business.

The two day conference, that saw a curtain raiser on March 3, will witnessed participation of stakeholders that include farmers, artisans, innovators, entrepreneurs and representatives from allied industry besides the officials from National Bamboo Mission, State Bamboo Missions, State Forest Departments, Forest Development Corporations of the states, Ministry of Tribal Development, Tribal Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED), Machinery Makers, Handicrafts Corporations, North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council, Research Institutions and NGOs.

The experts will discuss the innovations and pore over the subjects related to the bamboo industry from planting to high end engineered products and marketing.

The focus areas of the conference are include Bamboo production technologies, Techniques in treatment of Bamboo, Value addition in Bamboo, Innovative and newly designed machineries, Innovations of utilizing Bamboo in construction, Bamboo charcoal, activated carbon, fibres and furniture etc, New schemes – under National Bamboo Mission  and Issues and challenges in marketing and value addition.
