Ukraine Claims Being Forced To Suspend Russian Gas Transit To Consumers

In the latest update, the gas transmission system operator of Ukraine (GSTOU) has blamed Russia for hindering Russian gas transit through Ukraine to the buyers in Ukraine and Europe.

Sergiy Makogon, top of the GSTOU, said on Wednesday that Gazprom has prevented transportation of gas from Russia to the gas estimating station Sokhranivka, in this way suspending supplies to Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk and Lugansk areas.

The GSTOU said that it had to suspend the Russian gas transit to Europe by means of the domains in eastern Ukraine constrained by Russian powers because of “force majeure”. The gas transit by means of the Sokhranivka and the line blower station Novopskov were stopped over unapproved impedance in specialized cycles and withdrawals of gas, the GSTOU said.
“The activities of the occupiers prompted the interference of gas transit,” it said.
Novopskov is the gas blower station in the contention impacted Lugansk area, which siphons up to 32.6 million cubic meters of gas each day through Sokhranivka or 33% of Russia’s gas transit to Europe. The GSTOU said it is prepared to reroute the gas streams from Sokhranivka to the Sudzha actual interconnection point situated in the area constrained by Ukraine.
A comparable exchange of limit from Sokhranivka to Sudzha occurred from Oct. 12 to 25, 2020 because of planned fixes, the GSTOU said. As per it, Sudzha has a limit of siphoning 72 million cubic meters of gas each day.
On March 31, the GSTOU said that 44 gas-dispersing stations in Ukraine suspended their tasks because of the harm brought about by shelling in the Russia-Ukraine struggle.
On March 10, Makogon said that the everyday transit of Russian gas by means of Ukraine nearly multiplied starting from the beginning of the contention to a contracted limit of 109 million cubic meters each day. On April 12, local media revealed that Russia’s gas transit through Ukraine tumbled to around 68% of the contracted greatest.
In 2021 so far, the Ukraine transited a 41.6 billion cubic meters of Russian gas to shoppers in Europe, down 25% from 2020.
