Uniform Civil Code will render equal justice to women from all sections: Arif Mohd Khan

Advocating the much talked about controversialUniform Civil Code, the Governor Kerala Arif Mohammad Khan said, “UCC has a constitutional objective that can ensure equal justice to all the communities. However, the issue is being viewed with inappropriate perception.

He was addressing the “Minority Conference 2023” organised by NID Foundation at Chandigarh on Wednesday. “The allegation that accepting the UCC will cast a spell over religious laws holds no weight,” he said, adding that “The sections enshrined under UCC can ensure equal justice to women from different communities when it comes to dealing with cases like matrimonial or inheritance disputes.”

Women folk, he said, are facing injustice as different communities are implementing different laws to address issues concerning women rights in the country. As such there is a need to introduce a uniform civil code to address these issues.

“Apprehensions like every community will lose its identity once the UCC will be implemented and at the same time they will be forced to follow the law even during performing marriages and last rites, are baseless. The law wasn’t meant to ask people what customs they need to follow. It is largely about providing equality in rendering justice,” the governor maintained.

He further said that the beauty of Indian democracy lies in cultural and religious diversity. We need to connect our youngsters with these customs and culture as the Indian customs made us rich with such values that communicate a message of global harmony.

While addressing the conference, Iqbal Singh, the Chairman National Commission for Minorities said, “All the communities played an equal role in propelling the country towards development.

Claiming that Prime Minister Modi introduced “Amrit Kaal” vision in the country, Sasmit Patra said, “Being citizens of this country, it is our responsibility to strive to achieve this vision. He also shed a light over some of the milestones achieved by the Modi government and claimed that India is heading towards becoming a superpower.
