UP Government Appoints Retired Allahabad High Court Judge To Probe Lakhimpur Kheri Violence

In another update from the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, the Uttar Pradesh government has deputed Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, a retired judge of the Allahabad High Court to probe the matter.

Commission Required To Submit Report Within 2 Months 

As per the latest reports released, the judicial commission will have their offices set up in Lakhimpur Kheri. They are further required to submit its reports within two months.

So far, nine people have lost their lives in the accident on October 3. The next day, the state government had announced that they would appoint a retired high court judge to ensure that the probe is impartial. So far, Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish is being accused of killing nine people.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file a status report of the incident. They had asked the government to file the details of the accused. The bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana along with Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hima Kohli have also sought an explanation if the people named in the FIR have been arrested yet.

The Supreme Court further said that the UP government is not investigating the matter properly and that’s the issue. Following the same, the UP government’s counsel, Additional Advocate General Garima Parshad informed the bench that a judicial commission has been formed to investigate the matter. And the state would file a status report soon.

CJ Directs Immediate Attention To The Mother of the Victim

While Parshad described the Lakhimpur Kheri violence as “extreme, unfortunate”, the Chief Justice said that they feel the same too. The bench further directed her to provide medical assistance to the mother of the victim killed in the incident.

The bench said that she is suffering from the loss and shock of her son’s death and is in a critical condition.  They asked Parshad to get the mother admitted to nearby government hospital.
