The US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, gave a visit to the Qutb Shahi tombs on Sunday, one of the monuments that has received conservation funding from the Ambassador’s fund.
“After visiting the Paigah Tombs yesterday, I wanted to be sure to visit the Qutb Shahi Tombs today,” he tweeted.
The US government is contributing a quarter of a million dollars to the conservation and restoration of six tombs built between the 18th and 19th centuries as part of the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation.
“More of the stunning architecture that has made this visit to #Hyderabad so remarkable,” he added.
President Droupadi Murmu appointed Eric Garcetti as the 26th US ambassador to India on May 11, 2023. He has served on the Los Angeles City Council for 12 years. Ambassador Garcetti won the election in 2013 as the youngest mayor in the city’s history, and he was re-elected in 2017.
During his first official visit to the city, he has been on a monument-visiting spree. Charminar and the Paigah Tombs are already ticked off the list. During his visit to Charminar, he also tried the iconic Irani Chai and praised its distinct flavor. He also visited the Chowmahalla Palace, the former residence and seat of power for the Nizams of Hyderabad State.

After visiting the T-Hub, Ambassador Garcetti inaugurated the US Consulate on Friday. “This place (Hyderabad) has captured my imagination. If you want to see the future, it’s right here in Hyderabad. You see it in the enthusiasm of the people, space like this (T-Hub) and growth, construction and momentum of the city.”
He said that it’s not just the startup ecosystem; it’s also turning concepts and aspirations into reality and employment. The newest US Consulate in Hyderabad was opened proudly by the US government.
