When US President Joe Bide announced in April to withdraw all the American forces from Afghanistan by September, an op-ed in the Washington Post predicted that it would result in a disaster, especially for women.

Washington Post Accused Joe Biden of Turning Cold Towards Afghanistan

Talking about the situation, the op-ed said that the tragedy is unfolding at a much faster pace than anyone imagined. In the past few weeks, Taliban has captured dozens of districts and blocked some of the main roads in Kabul.

On Tuesday, the top US military commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Austin S. Miller, met reporters and warned with remarkable bluntness that ‘civil war is certainly a path that can be visualized’, adding ‘that should be a concern for the world’,” the op-ed piece said.

The Washington Post further accused Joe Biden of turning cold towards the Afghan government. It said that the President should have thought about the Afghan government as the US troops have spent over two decades in the country.

Last month, reports suggested that Biden had decided against slowing down the process of withdrawing US air bases along with some American officials who supported the decision.

The op-ed further said that when Joe Biden met his Afghan counterpart, Ashraf Ghani at the White House, he reportedly declared that the Afghans would have to “decide their future”.  It added that the future looks bleak if the current trend continues. Following the withdrawal, Aghan army units are being wiped out by the Taliban forces or some are surrendering without a fight.

Even with the support of the government, US intelligence predicted that they won’t be able to tackle the situation for a long time. They predicted that within 6 to 12 months of the US departure, things might starts to fall.
