US And Britain To Come Together To Help Afghanistan Refugees; Another G7 Meeting Soon

World opinion against the US seems to have taken a different shape since the Taliban toppled the Afghanistan government and took over the country. Amidst the chaos, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Joe Biden have spoken over call regarding the current situation in Afghanistan.

US and Britain To Work Together Regarding The Afghanistan Situation

As per the latest reports from the Xinhua news agency, the two leaders welcomed their countries’ cooperation regarding the Afghanistan conflict in the upcoming days and weeks. They’d help evacuate as many nationals, current, and former staff, and others from Afghanistan.

The statement released further said that they had resolved to continue to work closely in the upcoming weeks to get as many people out of the country as possible.

Over the phone call on Tuesday, both Johnson and Biden also agreed on the need for the collective effort of the global community to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Britain plans to include additional humanitarian aid to the region and resettling the refugees. Britain’s office confirmed that they would help up to 20,000 Afghan refugees with resettlement.

Furthermore, both Biden and Johnson have agreed to conduct a virtual meeting for the Group of Seven (G7) in the coming days to discuss the Afghanistan situation.

Biden Stands By The Decision For US Withdrawal

In the recent speech on Monday, Biden stood firmly by his decision to withdraw the US troops from Afghanistan. At the same time, he acknowledges that Kabul’s collapse at the hands Taliban came much sooner than what Washington had earlier anticipated. The Taliban took over the Afghanistan capital, Kabul within a week.

Johnson said that the US decision to withdraw from Afghanistan had “accelerated things’ in the country.
