Hyderabad: Katherine Hadda, US Consultate General, here gave away certificates to 15 girls, who underwent 15-day training in Basic Computer Literacy here at Vattepally, near Falaknuma this weekend.
They were the first batch pass outs of Project Hunar, a collaborate project of American four MNCs—Arcesium, Microsoft, Synchrony. The Telangana government felicitated by United Way of
Hyderabad with the support of NGOs SAFA and Craftizen.
The 15 students comprising of girls and married women in the age group of 15 to 27 years, who were either studying, housewives or were doing some tailoring jobs or were idle. They were selected for the training under the Project Hunar. Some of These include: Ishrath Sana, Sadia Anjum, Shahana Begum, Seema Darbare, Jabeen Begum, Neha Sultanan, Tasleem Begum, Rubeena Begum, Anjum Begum, Y. Sirisha, Kaneez Fatima, Fatima Begum, Sultanta, Sabiha Begum, Sultana and others.
The idea of this social collaboration was the brain-child of US Consul General, Katherine Hadda, who also is the Board advisor to United Way of Hyderabad.
Speaking on the occasion prior to presenting the Certificates, Katherine Hadda said, “this project is about building an ecosystem for skills development and success,” said Consul General Hadda. “This project is an investment in the futures of these women, and it is an example of how partnership between American companies here in Hyderabad, the Government of Telangana, and local communities can deliver powerful results,” added the Consul General.
Speaking on the occasion Rekha Srinivas, CEO of United Way of Hyderabad said the first batch is completed successfully and the second batch is already commenced. With these skill development programs you will see these girls emerge out as different personalities.
Mr. Naqi Ali Abedi, Program Manager SAFA briefed about the entire training cycle. As part of the event, dignitaries from the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad, the Government of Telangana, Arcesium, Microsoft, S&P Global and Synchronyas well as community leaders addressed the successful participants. Buchavva a Community Leader, Motilal, the local corporator also participated in the function.
The participants of Project Hunar’s first batch of 15 students received certificates for completing the first phase of their traning at the Project Hunar Skilling Development Center at the community center in Vatepally, Bahadurpura Mandal, Hyderabad. The center is collaboratively supported by four American Multi-National Corporations (MNCs), Arcesium, Microsoft, S&P Global and Synchrony. The project is open for more companies to join the initiative and partner alongside the existing team, as Project Hunar establishes new Training Centersv with in the Mandal.
The project’s key objectiveis are to enable women to learn industry-relevant and market-driven skills to help them secure a better livelihood.The first center opened its doors on 3 rd July 2019 and is expected to train 250 women in IT skills, job readiness and craft-based product development informed Rekha Srinivas, CEO of United Way of Hyderabad.
The first batch of young women who received certificates today are now trained in IT and computer operations. In the second phase, these participants will receive further training in conversational English, workplace confidence and job readiness, Rekha shared.
Project Hunaris a result of collaboration betweenAmerican MNCs, the Government of Telangana and local NGOs. The brain-child of U.S. Consul General, Katherine Hadda, this collaboration drove supporting partners to contribute to program design and development support as well as engage volunteers from the different companies in the effort.
The Project Hunar team seeks to standardize this model and scale it up to meet community needs by starting multiple such centers across Telangana. In the Bahadurpura Mandal, 78.5% of the population is between the ages of 15 and 59, but only 60% have even primary levels of education. Only 4% of youth claim to have a regular, reliable source of income.
The Center at Vatepally is currently sponsored by Arcesium, Microsoft, S&P Global and Synchrony and will be managed by the United Way of Hyderabad in partnership with NGOs SAFA India and Craftizen. (NSS)
