The online food delivery platform Swiggy has started charging all users a “platform fee” of Rs 2 per food order, regardless of the cart value.
The company was quoted as saying that the additional charges are being levied only on food orders on the main platform and does not apply on Instamart users.
“The platform fee is a nominal flat fee charged on food orders. This fee helps us operate and improve our platform and enhance app features to deliver a seamless app experience,” a Swiggy spokesperson said in a statement.
The platform fee is in addition to the convenience and handling fees for food delivery.
It was last reported that Swiggy processed more than 1.5-2 million orders during the day. During Ramzan, the people of Hyderabad ordered 10 lakh biryanis and 4 lakh haleem plates on Swiggy, the leading food delivery platform.
Over 4,00,000 orders for haleem, a Ramzan special meal, were placed for more than nine types, including chicken, palamuru pottel, Persian Special haleem, and dry fruit haleem. The city’s preferred version was mutton Haleem.
Orders for festive specialities such as Malpua, Firni, and Rabdi increased by 20%.
Crispy and spicy samosas and bhajiyas were popular at Iftar, or breaking the fast. Iftar favourites included samosas and bhajia, as well as dishes cooked with dates. The number of orders for bhajiyas increased by a stunning 77%.
According to the online food delivery platform, 33 million idlis have been delivered in the last 12 months, indicating this dish’s immense popularity. Idlis were ordered most frequently in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
On average, the platform has over 2.5 lakh restaurant partners, and about 10,000 restaurants are added each month.
