Water supply to be disrupted in these areas of Hyderabad on April 11

Some parts of Hyderabad and its suburbs will experience water shortages for 24 hours starting at 6 am on April 11.

Among the affected areas are Beeramguda, Ameenpur, RC Puram, Deepthisri Nagar, Madinaguda, Gangaram, Chandanagar, Miyapur, KPHB Colony, Kukatpally, Bhagyanagar Colony, Pragathinagar, Nizampet, Bachupally, Bollaram. A few low-pressure areas supplied by the reservoir in Erragadda and Banjara Hill will also be affected.

In a press release, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board said the water supply is being halted due to heavy leakages in the pipelines laid under the Manjeera Water Supply Scheme Phase-II.

Shortage and erratic supply of water

An irregular water supply has caused water shortages in several peripheral areas of the city. In some areas, water is only available once a week. Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is receiving complaints from across the city about the erratic supply.

There is also low pressure, in addition to the irregular and insufficient water supply that has plagued residents for several weeks now.

While some highly populated areas experience reduced volumes, families with smaller households struggle to sustain water for two days.

The situation is worse in colonies where water is not supplied every alternate day. A second concern is the haphazard timing of supply, with some areas receiving water well into the evening.

In the meantime, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board will begin supplying drinking water to 89 colonies on April 15.

For resolving Hyderabad’s water deficit issues, the water board has undertaken a two-phase pipeline laying and reservoir construction project with an estimated cost of  Rs 1,200 crore.

Adding to the water issues, the polluted water in the city is causing havoc. Drinking the polluted water in Madhapur, Begumpet Vaddara Basti, has led to the hospitalization of at least 20 people. One person, Bheemayya, died as a result.
