10 lakh KCR Kits distributed to mothers and newborns

According to the latest reports, the KCR Kits scheme has reached a major milestone by distributing 10 lakh Kits to mothers and their newborns.

Telangana’s noteworthy KCR Kits scheme, which aims to improve mother and child healthcare and encourage pregnant women to use government hospitals, has now distributed 10 lakh KCR Kits to mothers and their newborns.

Since its inception in June 2017, the initiative, which includes financial incentives, has provided 10,82,684 KCR Kits to mothers who deliver their babies at government hospitals.

Between 2017 and 2022, the scheme has helped 14,17,816 pregnant women deliver babies at government hospitals, with a financial benefit of Rs 12,000 for a baby boy and Rs 13,000 for a baby girl.

Government hospitals have consistently outperformed private hospitals, accounting for 55 per cent of all pregnancies in the state since the scheme’s inception. Between 2017 and 2022, a total of 25,63,659 deliveries took place in Telangana, with 14,17,816 (55%) of them taking place in government hospitals.

The financial benefits of the KCR Kits initiative are delivered directly to the bank accounts of pregnant women, which is one of the initiative’s distinctive features. The funds are distributed in four stages to guarantee that the newborn and mother receive sufficient care.

On completion of the second antenatal (ANC) check-up, Rs 3,000 is added to the bank account of pregnant women, Rs 4,000 or Rs 5,000 after delivery of a boy or a girl, Rs 2,000 is added after the first immunization within three months after delivery, and the final amount of Rs 3,000 is added after the second immunization within nine months after delivery.

Telangana has a high percentage of babies who are vaccinated as a result of the initiative’s built-in focus on immunization. Vaccination is given to about 90% of infants within the first three months after delivery, and 80% of newborns are vaccinated within the first nine months of delivery.

KCR Kits have resulted in an increase in deliveries in government hospitals, as well as the overall development of intensive care facilities for newborns and improvements in vital healthcare indices such as Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rates (IMR), both of which are at all-time lows in Telangana.
