11 Year Old Dies Of Bird Flu in Gurugram

Amidst the rising cases of Covid 19, Gurugram reported the first fatal case of bird flu from Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The case was reported in Gurugram’s Chakkarpur village. Following this, Animal Husbandry Departments have launched a survey as a precautionary measure.

As per the reports, the department has sent 28 teams in the district to check all the poultry farms. The survey is being conducted within a 10 kms radius around the Chakkarpur village. Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Department, Punita Gehlawat said that the 11 years old child suffered from the bird flu.

She said that the poultry farms in the district are being checked by the Animal Husbandry department. Currently, there are 20 poultry farms in the district.

“Seventeen teams are working separately for the survey in Chakkarpur village and the surrounding 10-km radius,” she added.

Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Urges Public To Inform Animal Husbandry Department To Inform Of Sick/Dead Birds 

Manjeeta Nath Das, Consultant at the Internal Medicine, Columbia Asia Hospital, Palam Vihar, Gurugram said that H5N1 is the most common type of bird flu. The death of the child has created a panic amongst the people. The infection is not only deadly to the bird but can also affect the humans and other animals as well.

Das said that H5N1has the potential of becoming a pandemic threat to humans. Gurugram Deputy Commissioner, Yash Garg appealed to the general public to share the information of any dead or sick bird to the Animal Husbandry department.

Garg said that there is no harm in eating well-cooked chicken or eggs. The exports suggest that the virus can be destroyed at 70 degree temperature. Following this, the administration has released an advisory for the poultry farms and associated businesses.
