4383 new Panchayats from Aug 2: Jupally

Hyderabad: Panchayt Raj Minister, Jupally Krishna Rao today said that 4383 New Gram Panchayats will be set up fresh and they will start functioning from August 2.

Addressing a press conference at Secretariat here he said that the program will be conducted as a festival by active participation by local leaders and officials. Krishna Rao said that special officers will be at helm of affairs at the village panchayats, whose number has gone up to 12,751 with new village panchayats from August 2. The minister said that the period of the present Sarpanches is ending on July 31 the government has taken a decision to appoint special officers as per new panchayat raj Act and norms. Rao also made it clear that the special officers to be in place will play effective role in taking up the welfare and development programs as usual to reach the people. These officials he said will be in place until the elections for the panchayats are conducted in future.

He also said that the government will hold elections for the village panchayat followed by a court directive. The Special officers will continue to discharge their duties till the elections for the local bodies are conducted, he further said.

The state government took a decision to appoint 9750 Panchayat Secretaries for taking forward development programs in coordination with the officials. He further said that the new secretaries will be appointed soon and will work in tandem with existing 3000 Secretaries in assorted village panchayats in the state. He expressed hope that the efficient coordination among special officers, secretaries and other staff at village level will serve the purpose.(NSS)
