60 colonies outside GHMC limits supplied with drinking water

Under the government’s ongoing efforts, 60 colonies outside GHMC boundaries and within the jurisdiction of ORR have received a connection to drinking water. Another 58 colonies are scheduled to be provided with water connections in the next ten days.

Pipeline work has been completed and water has started flowing in 60 colonies as part of the 1,200-crore project. On Wednesday, Dana Kishore, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), stated that about 215 kilometres of new pipelines have been laid for these colonies.

About 75 kilometres of pipelines were being laid in another 58 colonies at a brisk pace. Kishore requested that officials speed up the work to complete the project in these colonies as well.

Dana Kishore had advised anyone wishing to apply for new connections in these areas to register on the Hyderabad Water Board website (www.hyderabadwater.gov.in). In areas where the pipeline had already been completed, the water board is holding special camps for the registration of new connections. These camps are meant to create awareness among the people.

As part of Phase II of the HMWS&SB ORR Project, various parts of the ORR region are being worked on and plans are in place to complete the pipeline network construction by December. HMWS&SB has already received administrative approval for Rs.1,200 crore and plans to supply drinking water to 272 colonies.

Kishore had emphasized that since residents of the area would deal with problems during the monsoon season, work would be expedited to complete the pipeline prior to the beginning of the season.

This project consists of laying 2,093 kilometres of pipeline and constructing storage reservoirs containing 137 million litres. The officials were also told by Kishore to barricade sites where storage reservoirs will be built and to follow all safety regulations.
