72 students, civilians from Telangana brought home from violence-hit Manipur

On Monday afternoon, 72 Telangana students and civilians who were stranded in the violence-hit Manipur were evacuated and brought directly from Imphal to Hyderabad. They arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad at 1.22 p.m. in a special flight. By Monday evening, another 34 are expected to reach Hyderabad via Kolkata.

The remaining 130 Telangana students will arrive in Hyderabad in two batches on Monday night and Wednesday morning. Furthermore, some students will arrive in Hyderabad via Raipur, Patna, and Bhubaneswar. Around 250 Telangana students are thought to be studying in various educational institutions in Imphal and surrounding areas.

Students from NIT, IIIT, JIMS, Manipur Agriculture University, and several civilians, including a couple carrying a five-day-old baby from Nirmal’s Bhainsa town, were safely returned on Monday. The students and other evacuees thanked the state government for safely returning them home.

The evacuees were met at the RGIA by Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy, Additional Director General (Welfare) Abhilasha, ADGP (CID) Mahesh M Bhagwat, DIG (Women Safety Wing) B Sumathi, Rangareddy Collector S Harish, Additional Secretary (Protocol & NRI Affairs) S Arvinder Singh, and others.

Malla Reddy told the media that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had taken special care to ensure the safety of Telangana students and civilians stranded in Manipur. declaring that plans have been made to send students arriving from Manipur to their hometowns in buses, Malla Reddy said eight special buses have been arranged for this.

The Minister stated that the State government would take precautions to ensure that their studies were not affected.

According to a student from Suryapet CH Bharthi, about 26 girls on the flight were from NIT, Manipur. Bharthi stated that she contacted BRS MLC K Kavitha and that she encouraged and assisted them. Another student, Ghatkesar’s Sai Kiran, thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and IT Minister KT Rama Rao for their prompt response.

Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari and DGP Anjani Kumar had formed a special working group with a round-the-clock control room in the DGP’s Office. The state government has also established a special cell to monitor the situation in Manipur and is taking steps to ensure the safety of Telangana students and people residing in Manipur.

The Chief Secretary had previously contacted her Manipur counterpart to arrange safe transportation for Telangana students from Imphal to Hyderabad.
