AIMIM to rethink strategy after UP elections: Asaduddin Owaisi

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi said his party would rethink its strategy and return to fight elections in Uttar Pradesh.

“Our party put forth a lot of effort for the UP elections, but the result fell short of our expectations. We respect the people of UP’s decision. Nonetheless, we will remain on the ground and fight the elections with renewed energy. We are certain that the AIMIM will have a brighter future in UP,” he told reporters here on Thursday.

The AIMIM ran for 97 seats in Uttar Pradesh but failed to win any of them. The party was in alliance with Babu Singh Kushwaha’s Jan Adhikar Party and the Bharat Mukti Morcha. He stated that a few political parties had complained about EVM tampering. “It’s not about tampering with EVMs. It’s all about a chip embedded in people’s minds,” he explained, referring to the polarisation of votes on specific grounds.

He went on to say that one of the AIMIM’s goals was to establish political leadership in the country. Minorities were used as a vote bank in Uttar Pradesh. “They’ll see now that they were used as vote banks by certain political parties,” he said.

In response to allegations that the AIMIM indirectly helped the BJP in UP, he stated that the party was “least worried” by such allegations and that it would continue to contest elections in Gujarat and Rajasthan, as well as local body elections in UP later this year, with full preparation.

In an indirect reference to the Samajwadi Party, Owaisi stated that the party should recognize that it had failed in all aspects in UP.

“Even after making vicious statements against our alliance, it was unable to achieve power. The election result represents a turning point for the Muslim community in Uttar Pradesh, which will come to the fore later,” he said.

The Hyderabad MP also expressed gratitude to the people of Uttar Pradesh who voted for AIMIM candidates.
