AIMPLB will continue opposing Uniform Civil Code. Called the move will harm the integrity of the country

Terming the placement of a private bill pertaining to implementation of Uniform Civil Code in Rajya Sabha on December 9 as ‘very disappointing’ and ‘detrimental to the ‘integrity of the country,’ the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Saturday said that “The Board vehemently opposed this move and will continue to do so in the future. It also made an appeal to all the secular parties to strive hard to resist these anti constitution campaigns by the BJP Government as this is the only way of displaying our compassion with the nation.

Moulana Khaled Saifullah Rahmani, the General Secretary Muslim Personal Law Board, stated that “The architects of the nation framed the constitution with a belief that it will allow all the communities to live their lives according to their religion and customs in the country. It is on this premise the government of India has entered into accords with the separatists groups of adivasis (indigenous peoples) that allows them to live in the country as citizens with full satisfaction and without an iota of apprehension that they will be deprived of their uniqueness and identity.”

It is this assurance, he said, simultaneously allowing the Muslims, Christians, Parsies and few other communities today to live their lives with their own personal laws in the country. “Now, imposing a uniform civil code on all the communities is of no use and will harm the unity and integrity of the country instead,” argued Moulana Rahmani.

The Boards statement comes at a time when the BJP ruled central government, spurred with the recent record victory in Gujarat elections, is making fresh attempts to introduce a controversial bill to impose Uniform Civil Code on all citizens with diversified culture in the country unmindful of the serious consequences of the same.

As such, he said, the government should focus more on real challenges faced by the country instead of taking up bootless issues that help only to create rifts in the country. “A country like India, which is considered one among the most populated countries of the world, is a common motherland of people having different religions and cultures as their faiths, social living and customs are completely different from each other. Imposing a uniform civil code on all these diversified communities is not at all beneficial, instead, will prove detrimental,” he asserted.

“The ruling party is placing such diversified bills in the house through its members to bolster its communal politics only to impose Hindutva ideology on the whole nation. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board vehemently opposed this move and will continue to do so in future. It also appeals to all the secular parties to strive hard to resist these anti constitution campaigns by the BJP Government as this is the only way of displaying our compassion with the nation.
