Air Live bar raided for violating High Court’s orders, seven arrested

The Hyderabad Police Department is cracking down on pubs that violate Telangana High Court orders prohibiting music from being played in pubs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

On Sunday, the Air Live bar and restaurant in Sarath City Capital mall in Gachibowli was raided for violating High Court orders. Seven people were arrested, including the bar owner, manager, DJ, and singer, and the DJ’s equipment was seized.

The police invoked Sections 188 (disobedience to duly promulgated order by public servant) and 290 (punishment for public nuisance) of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 76/21 of the city police act.

Atin Agarwal (pub owner), Budhani Vinith (pub manager), Bokkari Raju (bar manager), Quadri Aman (singer), Quadri Umar (guitar player), Quadri Bilal (keyboard player), and Dip Benarju (Drums player) were all arrested.

Furthermore, 5 DI boxes, 6 In Air boxes, 2 CD players, 1 DJ mixer, 7 mike stands, 2 monitors, 2 live band mixers, and 2 DHR 12M loudspeakers were seized.

The Telangana High Court said in a September order, “No sound in pubs after 10 p.m. All music systems should be shut down by then.” The High Court said that according to the City Police Act and the Noise Pollution Regulation, loudspeakers are only permitted up to a certain volume.

The court also inquired of the police as to how pubs were permitted in residential areas and near educational institutions.

Furthermore, on September 27, the High Court criticized the city police for failing to enforce the court’s order and directed them to file cases against pubs that play music without obtaining the required license under the 2005 Place of Public Entertainment/Amusement rules.

Justice K Lalitha passed the orders after hearing writ petitions filed by the Jubilee Hills Residents Green Colony Association, which complained about noise from illegally operating pubs in residential areas.
