Airtel and Qualcomm Technology Collaborate for 5G Services in India

Telecom major Bharti Airtel and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc on Tuesday announced their collaboration for accelerating 5G in India.

Airtel and Qualcomm develop a conglomeration to accelerate 5G services. Telecom company to operate on Open RAN based network Fixed wireless 5G connectivity to be made available through this partnership.

Airtel Company had become the first Indian telco to demonstrate the 5G service over a live commercial network in the city of Hyderabad.

An Airtel source gave a statement which read that through its network service providers and device partners, the telecom company will be utilising the Qualcomm 5G RAN platforms to initiate the functioning of virtualised and Open RAN-based 5G networks.

Airtel, which is a board member of the O-RAN Alliance, has committed to the conglomerate for driving to the success of O-RAN alliance and is working with full power for Qualcomm Technologies to explore and implement the O-RAN approach for India.

The flexible and scalable architecture of O-RAN will create new opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses to become viable players in the deployment of 5G networks, in addition to which, Airtel and Qualcomm Technologies added that they will also be collaborating to enable a wide range of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) which is designed to deliver broadband connectivity at Gigabit speed to homes and business users. This collaboration shall also aim towards a faster availing of broadband services in a cost-effective and expeditious manner across the nation for “last mile” connectivity challenges.
Randeep Sekhon, the Chief Technological Officer of Bharti Airtel had said that With Airtel’s integrated service portfolio and Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G leadership, the joint venture will be carrying Indian users into the next era of hyper-fast and ultra-low latency digital connectivity.

Rajen Vagadia, the Vice President of Qualcomm India Private Limited and President, Qualcomm India concurring with the Airtel CTO expressed excitement for the oncoming venture to avail 5G services to the users. And added that the collaboration is expected to play a vital role in Bharti Airtel’s plans to initiate the 5G network coverage.
