“Almost 80 percent people in media are uneducated, industry needs overhauling” Satish Sinha

While reacting over the CJI N.V.Ramana’s recent comment over the way the media is working and the propaganda channels breaking false narratives only to foment hatred among the people, Satish K. Sinha, a renowned Journalist said “The honorable Chief Justice of India made observations over the issues persisting within the media, not about the one truly faced by the media and the people being responsible for the same and playing behind the scene.”

While participating in a debate over the CJI’s recent remarks against the media over a news channel on Monday, he said, believe me 80 percent of the people being associated with the media are uneducated as this industry pays them very less while they too have least regards of their work. So, the media fails to perform pragmatically.

“Let’s take a look at the guest coordinators of the news channels. Ask them to go for an IQ or a general knowledge test. I promise 94 percent of them will not clear the test,” claimed Sinha.

“The other issue is a divisive polarisation of news channels between the pro-modi and anti-godi government. While one side beat the drums of the government the other broke with anti-modi narratives. This will not allow anyone to reach an appropriate conclusion and results in losing of core objectivity of the reporting simply because of the half backed and false narratives being crept inside the story. These are the actual reasons that need to be addressed,”he explained.

As far as the serious observations made by the CJI that media is running the ‘Kangaroo Courts,’ Satish Sinha said, “I think there is a need to make ourselves fully informed of the issue including the CJI as there are several aspects working behind creating such a situation.  Without going deep into these aspects, mere observations cannot help anyone get a way out of the issue sans any conclusion or a solution.”

Unlike the past, he further said, no standards are being maintained nowadays in selecting the guests for a debate over a variety of issues on the television channels.

“Earlier, if no political figure with a subject calibre was found, they were replaced with a senior journalist having a great command over the issue being selected for the debate. Cancel the show if you find there is no appropriate political figure available or else replace him with a senior journalist atleast to maintain the serenity and dignity of the show,” argued Sinha.
