As rains signed off, HMWSSB geared up to complete ORR Phase-2 project by summer

Following a significant decline in the rains, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has geared up to intensify works of Outer Ring Road (Phase-II) project aimed at providing drinking water to municipalities, municipal corporations, gram panchayats, colonies and gated communities within ORR with a cost of Rs.1200 crores.

Managing Director Dana Kishore convened a review meeting with the official concerned at Head office Khairatabad on October 21 and instructed them to speed up the works of Outer Ring Road (Phase-2) project in order to complete them before the onset of the summer season. The MD reportedly said that the project works under Phase-II should be taken up immediately as the rain spells significantly drops down.

It is said that the progress of construction works of reservoirs, inlets and outlets besides distribution lines was reviewed and discussed in length during the meeting. The MD asked the officials to complete the ORR Phase-2 works by next March next year and all the works should be done according to the plan thereby to ensure drinking water supply to the people living under ORR by summer.

“Apart from the construction of reservoirs, the inlet, outlet and distribution line works should also be taken up simultaneously. Besides, required material should be secured in sufficient quantity and ensure that there would be enough workers on the field to complete the task on time,” the Managing Director said.

He also ordered that safety measures should be taken seriously in the areas where the pipeline works are going on. “Workers should be told to wear protective equipment and gadgets without fail. The barricades should be placed where works are in progress. Once the pipeline expansion works are completed, the road rehabilitation works should also be done,” he instructed.

He urged the officials that as part of the ORR Phase-2 works, the works of the offices being constructed at identified places should also be completed by March and the offices should be accessible to the public. “Apart from this, a new director’s office is also being constructed to monitor and operate the works being carried out by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board,” informed Dana Kishore.
