As rainy season continues, clinic in old city flooded with patients

Following a week-long spell of rain, the hospitals and clinics, especially in the old city, are bursting into seams with patients mostly children as the large section of unprivileged population is seen completely in thrall of viral fever, dengue and other seasonal ailments.

Leave alone the government hospitals, even the private medical care facilities, Basti Dawakhanas, Dispensaries and Clinics too are witnessing a huge foot fall of the people completely in thrall of seasonal infections that include fiver, coughing, sneezing, diarrhea, diphtheria and other vector borne diseases.

The large number of people prefers the local private clinics first for checkups after the outburst of seasonal diseases. Thus, these clinics serve as a primary point of contact for the local people who turned up the facilities to get treatment for them or their family members.

These clinics, especially in the old part of the city are presently witnessing a surge in footfall as seasonal ailment left emaciated the people in general and the children in particular. Patients were seen sitting in waiting in long queues for their turn. “Most of the people are complaining of fever, body pain, coughing, sneezing and even burning sensation and other anomalies which are vector borne infections. Besides, they reveal that more than one person in their families is affected with similar symptoms,” informed Syed Mushtaq, a medical professional practicing in one of the clinics in the city.

“Though there were no serious reports of the situation going out of control but the number of affected people, especially the children, are keep moving up and forming a grim picture as unsavory season is yet to conclude while more rains are predicted in the days to come,” informed an official on the condition of anonymity.

According to Telangana State Statistical Abstract 2020 survey there were nearly 22 General Hospitals, 10 Hospitals for Special Treatment, 29 dispensaries and 91 Primary Health Centers in the city besides 52 sub-centers and 64 Basti Dawa Khanas that provide medical treatment facilities to city people. In addition to this there are 914 Anganwadi Centers that help people get impromptu medical service.

While there are two Urban Community Health Centers (UCHCs) in Dabeerpura and Jangammet, one general community health center is available at Barkas area under Chandrayangutta constituency. Only Golkonda, Nampally and Malakpet carry area hospitals in the city besides a district hospital at King Koti.

“Though there were reports of mosquitoes menace in several colonies leading to swelling cases of vector borne diseases, the entomology wing staff seem least active in carrying ante larvae operations to fend off the stinging flies,” rued Syed Shoukat Ali, a community.
