Asaduddin Owaisi Questions BJP on Places of Worship Act

The President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi, has questioned the BJP’s stance on the Places of Worship Act 1991.

This ordinance is intended to prevent any house of worship from being converted and to preserve its religious character as it stood on August 15, 1947Asaduddin Owaisi’s inquiry follows a post by Amit Malvya accusing him of communalizing the Ram Mandir’s dedication.

In response, Asaduddin Owaisi justified himself by citing the illegal demolition of two mosques in Hyderabad, Masjid-e-Mohammadi and Masjid-e-Hashmi, which were later rebuilt. He clarified that prayers are already being offered in these rebuilt mosques.

He contrasted this with the desecration of the Babri Masjid in 1949, conversion to a temple in 1986, and demolition in 1992. Asaduddin Owaisi questioned whether the BJP intends to take a similar stance in Kashi and Mathura. He recognized the Supreme Court’s decision but noted that the court is supreme but not infallible.

This interaction focuses on the continuous discourse and disputes surrounding religious places, their historical value, and the legal system in India that governs their protection
