Australian State Alerts of Severe Fire Danger as Temperatures Rise

New Delhi: Residents in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) were cautioned on Thursday to be prepared for a weekend of unusually high temperatures with a “severe” possibility of bushfires.

Maximum temperatures were estimated to be more than 40 degrees centigrade in certain locations, with maximum temperatures 15 to 18 degrees hotter than the November average, Xinhua revealed.

The NSW Rural Fire Service stated: “This will increase the fire risk across much of state with very high and severe fire danger likely on the weekend. Plan and prepare now.”

The serious heat, joined with hot winds being blown across the centre of the country, was expected to make “volatile” conditions like those experienced during the absolute worst days of Australia’s deadly 2019-2020 bushfire season.

Australia has consistently had a fire season, with naturally occurring fires started during the dry summer season, however, the current year’s season has been unprecedented in the scale and intensity of the fires.

Australian Bureau of Meteorology scientists included that the unseasonably hot climate could see many temperature records broken.

Meteorologist Dean Narramore said that numerous November records may be broken or equalled, as severe heatwave conditions are likely for much of inland South Australia, New South Wales and Northern Victoria.

The heatwave was expected to proceed throughout the weekend and into the start of the following week, with very hot daytime temperatures and little relief overnight.
