BE students of Osmania University boycott exam fee payment

Hyderabad: Students of the Osmania University’s affiliated engineering colleges in Hyderabad have voluntarily and intentionally refrained from making the exam fee payment for the course of bachelor of engineering (B.E.).

The agitated section of students have said that the Osmania University has issued guidelines and notifications for the payment of the exam fees while the central and state government have clearly against the reopening of educational institutions. They said that the notification further implies that exams will be organized amid the crisis.

“All other universities in the country have either cancelled the exams or conducting it online. There are no guidelines yet on conducting the exams, then how can the university conduct the exams? It is completely illegal as it just wants to hoard our money so employees could be paid. Moreover, many people have financial issues due to lockdown and cannot pay the fee,” said Abul Fazal, final-year student, Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology.

The students have emailed Governor and Chancellor of OU, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, explaining the scenario and issues involved in the matter. A campaign has also been launched in regards to this on Twitter using the hashtag #BoycottOUExamFee. It has been done with an intention to make the university withdraw its exam notification. They demanded the university to collect fee and organize exams only when the government issues guidelines for the same.

According to the exam fee notification posted on its official website, students have to pay Rs.2,000 for all papers per semester. The exam fee for up to four papers is Rs.1,200 and VIII semester students have to pay an additional fee of Rs.925 for provisional consolidated memo and migration certificates. The last date for payment of fee without late fee is June 12 while June 15th is the last day for payment with a late fee of Rs. 200. Fees paid after the due date will attract a penalty of Rs. 1500.
