Bengaluru Riots: Naveen’s Bail Plea Rejected

The bail petition of P Naveen Kumar has been rejected by the Additional City Civil and Sessions court. Whose posts on the social media platform Facebook triggered the Bengaluru riots on August 11.

On Monday, it was observed during the hearing that Naveen was a habitual offender. The prosecution placed prima facie material against him and maintain that the alleged offense in relation to the riots was serious.

VidyadharShirahatti the 60th ACC&S judge, noticed that the prosecution had placed the prima facie material against Naveen. However, Naveen’s counsel argued that he has deep roots in society and was unlikely to tamper with evidence since the prosecution relies on electronic evidence. Hence, he should be granted bail.

A special public prosecutor (SPP) P. Prasanna Kumar told that a series of incidents following Naveen’s Facebook post had led to the registering of 67 FIRs in the Bengaluru Riots case. Which is now under investigation.

Kumar also told that Naveen has at least six cases registered against him in various police station limits in Bengaluru since 2007 and is a criminal antecedence. Hence, he should not be granted bail.

A person from Meerut has also even declared Rs.50 Lakh on Naveen’s head. The Special prosecutor added to his statement.

Naveen had misused the social media platform Facebook and used to it post an insidious post on August 11. Which hurt the religious sentiments of a community. He is the nephew of AkhandaSrinvasamurthy a Congress MLA, whose ancestral home was also damaged in the riots.

Meanwhile, the bail applications filed by several accused in the cases registered in the KG Halli and DJ Halli police stations were also rejected by the city court. Dismissing the applications, 73rd Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge YamanappaBammanagi noticed that granting bail to the accused at the initial stage of the investigation might hamper the fair investigation.
