BJP alleges TRS has registered 25,000 fake voters for Munugode bypoll

Tarun Chugh, national general secretary of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telangana in charge, alleged on Thursday that the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has registered 25,000 fake voters for the upcoming Munugode by-poll.

Chugh and former BJP MLC Ramchander Rao both stated that they have brought the matter to the attention of the Central Election Commission (CEC). According to the BJP national secretary, no more than 2,000 fake voters were registered in any of the previous by-elections. However, he claims that there has been an unprecedented increase in that number.

“We have urged the election commission to remove the fake voters,” the BJP leaders said. They also claimed that MLAs and MLCs were deployed in previous by-elections. Addressing the media, the two leaders stated that they have been urging the CEC for the past four years to transfer police and revenue officials from the Munugode seat.

The in charge of the Telangana BJP stated that the Election Commission would investigate the matter and take action against the TRS. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was also accused by BJP leaders of abusing his power to obstruct police and revenue officials. Chug went on to say that the BJP would undoubtedly win the Munugode by-elections.

Tarun Chugh further told reporters in New Delhi that “KCR has moved the Secretariat to Munugode” and that “a large number of TRS ministers have been stationed there.” The ministers are all accompanied by officials carrying files. “This is highly objectionable.”

In response to a question about campaigning by TRS ministers and BJP Union ministers in Munugode, Ramchander Rao also stated that the TRS ministers had their officials in tow which violated all election code norms because such officials can influence ground level government staff.
