Bombay High Court Suggests “Common Card” For Fully Vaccinated People For Unrestrained Travels, Work

As the vaccination drive continues to take place, the Bombay High Court on Thursday asked the Maharashtra Government to think about identifying and separating the ones who are fully vaccinated. And provide them with a “common card”.

Bombay High Court Suggests Issuing “Common Card” To Permit Unrestrained Travels

As per the latest reports, the bench including Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni said that the Maharashtra government should consider issuing people a “common card” for the ones who are fully vaccinated. With this, people would be permitted to travel and work unrestricted as before the pandemic.

The bench said that the common card will identify the citizens as fully vaccinated. The bench presided over a bunch of public interest litigations that sought permissions for lawyers, judicial clerks, and staff. Along with other fully vaccinated people to travel in local trains.

Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni appeared for the state government, told the High Court that a letter from the State Disaster Management Authority. The letter stated that the Railways will be issuing passes to travel on the local train.

The bench then referred to an interview with Maharashtra COVID-19 task force member Dr. Shashank Joshi. In the interview, Dr. Joshi said that the state was yet to achieve the target of fully vaccinating 70 percent of its population.

Bombay High Court Bench Suggests Common Card For Foreign Travel As Well

While referring to the interview by Dr Joshi, the court said that he had informed that one-third of the Maharashtra’s population was still highly susceptible to getting infected by the Covid 19. And unrestricted travel for even the ones who are fully vaccinated might not be safe.

The High Court said that if Dr Joshi says that train travel can be subject to identification, then the Centre and State should be moving forward to identify the same.

The court said that in some of the western nations, people are using such card to access public transport. They said that the common card can even be used as ID for all fully vaccinated people, even foreign travel
