Commercial Tax Dept. to unleash a drive soon against GST theft by business houses

Taking serious note of businesses being performed without following the rules in the state of Telangana especially in Hyderabad City, the Central Board of Excise and Customs is now planning to impose heavy penalties on commercial establishments against running businesses without enrolling for GST or issuing bills as per law to the customers after the transaction.

It is learnt that the GST officials have secured the list of trades having secured the license from the GHMC so as to ascertain the number of registered commercial establishments and the nature of their business in the city.

It has been decided to take-on establishments performing especially in residential areas of Hyderabad City that too without following GST rules. It is against this background, the officials of Central Board of Excise and Customs have begun collecting data of those city based establishments having enrolled in the Labour Department with more than one employee and fall under the GST category.

It is said that the trade establishments, having secured GST numbers after the introduction of the rule in the state, are not issuing bills while performing business. This was found during a survey against such trades. “Though scores of traders fall under the GST category but neither they have enrolled their trades nor are performing business appropriately complying with the rules that mandates billing with the inclusion of GST charges,” the survey revealed.

However, the traders are at the view that they have no issue in performing the business by securing the GST numbers. However, what is more troubling is the cumbersome process to get the number that fends them off from applying the same.

Following a report that hotels and commercial establishments have not secured the GST numbers despite enjoying the status of premier brands in the city, it has been decided to unleash a special drive against such trades in the old part of the city soon.

According to the officials of Commercial Tax Department, after finding a stark disparity between the number of commercial establishments and the one who have secured the GST numbers especially in commercial areas such as  Ameerpet, L.B Nagar, Kothi, Vanasthalipuram, Begum Bazar and Nampally and Charminar, it has been decided to roll on a special drive to identify the offenders.

During the drive, action will be taken against the establishment having failed in getting the GST number and the one who secured the number but showing zero transactions in the records.

Apart from this, awareness will also be spread regarding the benefits of paying tax on time among the traders.
