Commissioner took first hand appraisal of road works at Jalpally

In order to take first hand appraisal of the ongoing works taken up under Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) in Jalpally Municipality, the Commissioner G.P.Kumar carried out inspection of road work at Sri Ram Colony. This is a first road proposal being realized with a fund to the tune of Rs.50 Lakh under Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS).

Accompanied by other officials, the Commissioner reached the spot and took stock of the works for quite an hour. Local contractors and other officials apprise the commissioner about the ongoing work and the modalities being adopted to complete the task.

Besides, the Jalpally Municipality also proposed another C.C Road project from Osmania Hotel to Kothapet under Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) that got the nod of the district administration recently. The Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) that rolls out in the year 2016 has fetched Rs.4 crores that helps the Municipality to undertake road works within the jurisdiction.

“The Municipality received a total amount of Rs.4 crore under Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) in the year 2020, however, it is eligible to utilize only 70 percent of the fund as per the rules. After taking up road work at Sri Ram Colony utilizing Rs.50 Lakh of the fund for the first another road proposal of 1.5 to 2 kilometers length from Osmania Hotel to Kothapet Road with a cost of Rs.2.5 crore got a nod from the District Collector. The proposal is presently lying with the consultancy for estimation and later will be sent for technical sanctioning,” informed Kranti Kumar, Manager Jalpally Municipality.

It is said that nearly 14,000 applications have been received under LRS scheme from both individuals and for layout category that fetch a revenue of Rs.4 crore for the Municipality that came into being only 5 years ago in the year 2016.

The 1.5 kilometer CC Road starting from Osmania Hotel will move on through the main stretch of Ward Nos. 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 before culminating at Kothapet near Water Tank.

Jalpally municipality known as a largest slum on the outskirts of Hyderabad city comes under Maheshwaram constituency represented by Minister of Education P.Sabitha Indra Reddy. Having shared representation between MIM and TRS this municipality is divided into 27 densely populated wards. More importantly, this is the municipality where the Osman Nagar area is located that came into headlines last year after the entire area flooded under the water of Burhan Khan Lake.

As most of the area is known as densely populated slum habitation, no proper roads and sewerage system make it a complete picture of an underprivileged area for years. The significant portion of the population especially living abutting to western part of Burhankhan Lake mainly survives on daily wages as most of the families in these areas come under below poverty line.
