Congress leader Shashidhar Reddy alleges ill-treatment by Police

Hyderabad:  Senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy today alleged that the city police had ill-treated him and not allowed him to attend the birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Late PV Narasimha Rao. He said that, although he didn’t get any invitation.  He went to the PV Ghat on the necklace road but was stopped by the police. He said that the police had told him that he couldn’t attend the function and asked him to take Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s permission to do so.

In a statement, Reddy said that he called up the CP directly and added that the CP had told him since it was a state program nobody could be allowed to the event until the Chief Minister of the state KCR  paid his tributes at PV’s samadhi. He said that he felt humiliated at the treatment of the police. He said that he had learned about the instructions of the chief secretary of the state to not allow the congress party leaders to the program during a review meeting on the issue.

He said that the act of the police had reflected the mindset of the TRS leadership and the Chief Minister KCR  not to generally allow any Congressmen or opposition leader to move around freely while noting that his intention was not to blame the police. Reddy however said that he was paying his homage to PV on the occasion of his 99th birth anniversary and added that the former PM must be given all the credit for giving a free hand to the then Finance Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to introduce the bold economic reforms in the year 1991. He said that PV had served the country with distinction in different capacities.
