Corning Inc. Establishes Gorilla Glass Manufacturing Unit in Telangana

Corning Inc., a leading U.S.-based expert in glass, ceramics, and related materials and technologies, has established a gorilla glass manufacturing unit in Telangana.

This cutting-edge manufacturing plant, estimated to cost Rs 934 crore, would make cover glass for smartphone industry leaders. Corning Inc. is a Fortune 500 business headquartered in New York that specializes in glass science, ceramics science, and optical physics.

The anticipated Rs 934 crore investment, in partnership with its partners, is a strategic initiative that will play a critical role in fostering the smartphone manufacturing ecosystem in Telangana and across India. Over 800 people are expected to be employed as a result of this initiative.

During a recent visit to New York, Telangana’s Minister for Industries, K T Rama Rao (KTR), met with Corning Inc. leaders including John Bayne, Senior Vice President, Ravi Kumar, Global Operations Executive, and Sarah Cartmell, Director of Government Affairs.

“Telangana is rapidly emerging as a hub for electronics manufacturing due to initiatives undertaken by the state over the last 9 years,” said KTR. Many electronics manufacturing companies are increasingly relocating to Hyderabad. Following Foxconn’s large investment in Telangana earlier this year, Corning’s investment in Telangana will herald in a new age of smartphone production, not just in the state, but also in India.”

The opening of this Corning manufacturing facility is expected to have a substantial impact on Telangana’s electronic manufacturing landscape and contribute to the country’s developing tech economy.
