COVID horror- Centre rushes high-level teams to 6 states with increasing cases

Just as states started easing the lockdown restrictions due to the covid numbers going down, 6 of them have witnessed a sudden spike in cases. To tackle the growing problem, the Centre has sent six high-level disciplinary public health teams to these states.

Two-member teams consisting of a clinician and a public health expert have been directed to help Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Odisha, and Tripura in controlling the spread of covid-19 and assisting with containment measures.

The Health Ministry said these high level teams will garner the data and formula reports to understand the challenges emerging in the 6 states. They will also strengthen the current tactics in place to contain the covid numbers by eliminating hurdles.

Add. DDG & Director Dr L Swasticharan will head the Manipur team while Dr Sanjay Sadhukhan, Professor AIIH&PH will head Arunachal Pradesh’s disciplinary team. Dr RN Sinha, Dir Professor AIIH&PH has been sent to Tripura, Dr Ruchi Jain, Public Health Specialist Gr. II, RoHFW has been directed to Kerala while for Odisha Dr. A Dan, Public Health Specialist AIIH&PH and for Chhattisgarh Dr. Dibakar Sahu, Assistant Professor, AIIMS Raipur have been sent, the HM said.

These teams have been formed to support the states allotted to them by increasing the efficiency of their efforts in decreasing the covid numbers and battling the pandemic, it added.

They will be going to these regions immediately and begin their process of controlling the COVID spread with proper implementation of management measures, with attention to testing, containment, and surveillance along with “…Covid appropriate behaviour and its enforcement; availability of hospital beds, sufficient logistics including ambulances, ventilators, medical oxygen etc., and COVID-19 vaccination progress. The teams will monitor the situation and also suggest remedial actions,” it said.

The ministry added that the government has continued to head the country’s battle against the coronavirus pandemic with a “’Whole of Government” and ”Whole of Society” means under the umbrella strategy of ”Cooperative Federalism”.

The central government deployed teams whenever deemed necessary to reach states and Union Territories in its efforts to safeguard the nation and strengthen the states’ strategies in keeping the cases at bay.

In an unfortunate update, India marked 4 lakh fatalities due to coronavirus today. Alarmingly, one lakh of them happened in merely 39 day, as per Reuters. Nevertheless, amongst the top 10 worst-hit nations in the world, India has the lowest fatality rate.

Though these 6 states are going up the covid cases graph, other regions are showing a sign of improvement as 46,617 cases were registered in the last 24 hours- opposed to the 4 lakh-mark India was touching weeks back.
