Cracks appeared again on Appa Cheruvu bund put officials on toes

Following incessant rains coupled with huge inflows from upward direction, the Appa Cheruvu Lake at Gaganpahad – that wrecked havoc last year due to breaching of the bund, has yet again received a crack today unable to put with the pressure of inrush into the lake.

Alerted by local people, the revenue officials of Rajendranagar rush to the spot and take stock of the damage. Mandal Revenue Officer Rajendranagar K.Chandrasekhar accompanied with subordinate officials today visited the lake bund and took stock of the damage caused due to incessant rains and subsequent heavy inflows.

“After finding that a portion of the bund was swept away, unable to put up the pressure of inflows coming from upstream areas, we along with irrigation officials took up repair works at the bund. The makeover was done and there would be no threat to the bund for now. The revenue as well as the irrigation officials are monitoring the situation and on the vigil,” informed K.Chandrasekhar, Mandal Revenue Officer Rajendranagar.

Last year the Appa Cheruvu Lake bund developed breaches due to incessant rains and eventually collapsed on the intervening night of 13th October 2020 that swept away several families living alongside the lake. This tragedy claimed the lives of five people and some of them have not yet recovered.
