Cyberabad police arrest Tollywood producer in drug peddling case

Tollywood film producer Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdary was arrested by Cyberabad police on Wednesday, officials said.

From his possession, police seized 90 sachets containing 82.75 grams of cocaine, nearly Rs 2 lakh in cash, a car, and four mobile phones.

According to officials, Chowdary was apprehended on Tuesday by members of the Special Operations Team (SOT Madhapur) and Rajendranagar police while peddling drugs near Kismatpur X Roads, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Rajendranagar police station.

Chowdary is a native of Bonakal Mandal in Telangana’s Khammam district, according to police. He finished his B.Tech (Mechanical) and later worked as Director (Operations) in Indian Institute of Aeronautical Engineering and Technology at Pune.

He left his job in 2016 to pursue a career in film industry. He was the producer of Kabali movie in Telugu. He also distributed several Telugu and Tamil films, including Sardar Gabbarsingh, Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, and Kanitan (Arjun Suravaram), but he did not make the anticipated profits.

Chowdary later relocated to Goa and founded the OHM Club there.

According to police, the accused used to do drugs with friends and celebrities who traveled from Hyderabad to his Goa club. He returned to Hyderabad in April 2023 due to business losses. While coming to Hyderabad, he purchased 100 sachets of cocaine from a Nigerian, Petit Ebuzer alias Gabrial, a Goa resident who is wanted in a drug peddling case.

He allegedly used 10 sachets for himself and for selling to his friends. He was apprehended on Tuesday while allegedly attempting to sell cocaine.

Chowdary has been charged under Sections 21(b) read with 8(C) of the NDPS Act.
