Children who are minors should not ride two-wheelers or four-wheelers, the Cyberabad Police said. There have been 45 minor deaths reported in Telangana over the past four years.
Parents who flout the rules and give their minor children the keys to their vehicle will face legal consequences.
A fine of Rs.1000 was imposed earlier on minor drivers, but now the police officers confiscate the bike documents first. If they cannot be found, the vehicle will be seized. Both the owner and the driver must attend the counselling session. Also, a charge sheet will be filed against the juvenile and the owner, and both will need to appear in court.
In light of the recent gang rape of a minor girl by one adult and five juveniles in a car in Jubilee Hills, the issue of minors driving has once again come to the forefront.
AV Ranganath, Joint Commissioner of Police for Traffic (Traffic), told TOI that the data is clear and there are more than 10 minors killed every year just within the Hyderabad commissionerate.

Around 2,026 cases have been filed against ineligible minors found driving cars and bikes since January 2022. Of these, 1,059 charges have been filed as A1 and A2 against the minor driver and vehicle owner. The courts have awarded community service to the juveniles in 65 of these cases. Vehicle owners were sentenced to 24 hours in jail in 49 cases and two days in jail in two cases. In the rest of the 967 cases, a total fine amount of 81,200 was given.
In accordance with sections 180 and 181 of the Motor Vehicle Act, both the driver and owner of the vehicle can be prosecuted if the vehicle was driven without a driver’s license.
