Dark web investigator’s workshop being held in Hyderabad by the Telangana police

The Telangana State Police Academy started hosting a five-day workshop on Monday for dark web investigators. Police officials from across the country are attending the workshop inaugurated by Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand.

According to CV Anand, the State government and the Telangana police are spearheading digital initiatives in policing with an impressive record of training thousands of officers. Three people have committed suicide in the last 10 days as a result of cyber fraud, including those involving loan apps, for which it is very difficult to investigate and catch perpetrators.

It has been shown that it is possible to investigate these cases and that it requires specialized expertise and resources to do so in the case of Mahesh Bank hacking and the Xsilica e-payment gateway hacking. Telangana police have launched a crackdown on the dark web, which is even being used to traffic narcotic drugs.

In this five-day workshop and masterclass, cyber investigators will be equipped with the latest cutting-edge tools and investigation methodologies by simulating real-world examples and incidents, materials, open source intelligence tools (OSINT), and exercises.

The workshop is being organized by the Telangana Intelligence Department in partnership with Convergence Innovation Labs. Mark Bentley, a former British police officer, and a 40-year training veteran has been brought on board as an expert trainer to help maximize the capacity-building program of Telangana police personnel.

Previously the Hyderabad Police arrested several people including a student of Hyderabad Central University, a doctor from Banjara Hills, Many IT Professionals, and other students in a major drug bust involving three separate cases. The student at HCU and resident of Gajularamaram is the main accused in one of the cases, according to the officer of the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand. According to the police, he bought LSD blots on the dark web multiple times and used them with his friends.
