Delta Variant Transmission Rate To Increase To 90 Percent in Late August; ECDC

With the World Health Organisation warning against the Covid 19 Delta variant, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) also issued a warning. They said that the continent might suffer from the same by August this year.

ECDC Reports Delta Variant Transmission Could Reach 90 Percent by August

As per the reports released by ECDC, the Delta variant currently stands at 40-60 percent more transmission rate. By early August, the ECDC predicts that the new infections in the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) will react at 70 percent.

ECDC further predicts that by late August, the figure could reach 90 percent. At the same time, the ECDC also warned that the daily number of new positive Covid 19 cases, hospitalisations and fatality rate would increase by the late 2020 if Covid 19 guidelines are not strictly followed. The Covid 19 guidelines include non-pharmaceutical measures like social distancing, hand and respiratory hygiene and wearing facemasks.

The ECDC suggested that the Covid-19 vaccination campaigns must be accelerated and the second doses should also be administered as early as possible.

Delta Variant Could Infect People With Single Covid 19 Vaccination Dose; ECDC

Andrea Ammon, ECDC Director released a statement and said even the individuals who have received a single dose of Covid 19 vaccination are still vulnerable to the Covid 19 delta variant. She said it is highly likely that the Delta variant will circulate more during the summers especially amongst the younger generation. This would further lead to risking the vulnerability of other individuals.

Currently, younger individuals have not been the target for Covid 19 vaccinations.

Andrea further said that the people who may get infected with the Delta variant may experience severe illness and even death if they aren’t fully vaccinated. However, there is still hope left.

She said that two doses of the vaccinations available has been successful in providing higher protection against the variant.
