Demand intensified for streamlining of Wakf Board’s Legal Wing

Amid the reports of the Telangana State Wakf Board (TSWB) losing the cases of properties worth crores of rupees one after another in different courts, demand has intensified about streamlining the legal wing of the board to ensure protection of the properties spreads in the city and in different districts of the Telangana state.

It is learnt that while the Wakf Board is losing legal cases against the land sharks one after another in different courts, the reports of alleged irregularities emerging out from Board’s legal cell has also raised many eyebrows.

It is said that already the board incurred heavy losses into the hands of perpetrators while no correctional measures to streamline the legal wing will lead to further damages beyond repair. Apart from political interference in Wakf Board’s affairs, it is said that the officials and land grabbers too have formed syndicates to grab wakf properties which the managing committee plays a role of mute spectators.

It is said that black sheeps working in the board are enjoying the patronage of some corrupt members. As a result, the managing committee is allegedly failing in replacing the advocates representing the board in different courts despite losing the property cases one after another against the encroachers.

Following the appointment of a new chairman, it was widely believed that the whole management will be streamlined and the legal issues pending in various courts will be taken seriously.

However, the situation takes a more volatile turn following the new Chairman Mohd Masihullah Khan taking the charge as the cases of alleged misappropriation on the part of officials and staff besides reports of few officials rubbing shoulders with advocates are frequently doing the rounds that raised many eyebrows outside the board.

It is said that the nexus between the officials and advocates in the board is having a direct bearing over the legal cases in High Court and Wakf Tribunal much to the chagrin of court officials. Nobody in the Wakf Board is found sincere enough about the trounces being faced by the Board one after another in High Court due to lukewarm legal approaches to the cases pertaining to properties worth crores of rupees.

Lashing out at the government for playing a role of mute spectator despite knowing that the Wakf Board is slipping into crisis, Syed Meraj, a community activist said, “It is found that the situation will go beyond repair if the state government fails to streamline the legal wing of the Wakf Board as the institution is losing its properties worth crores of rupees one after another in courts due to faulty approaches.”
