Demand intensified for the appointment of a Special Officer in Wakf Board

Amid a face-off between the Incharge CEO and the Chairman Telangana State Wakf Board (TSWB), the demands for appointment of a ‘Special Officer’ in the board to allow smooth functioning of the activities has intensified as fear grew-up that vested interest may take advantage of the situation and cause a damage to the interest of the institution.

Only last month, the Wakf Body passed a resolution seeking repatriations of incharge CEO and sent it to the government for appropriate action. This has led to a fallout between the CEO and the Chairman Wakf Board who enjoys the support of few members.

As the entire Wakf body is divided into two groups – one led by Chairman Masiullah Khan having a support from few of the members while others are lenient towards Shahnawaz Qasim, the police force has been deployed in the Wakf premises to prevent any untoward incident. Meanwhile, it is learnt that many of the officials and staff members went on leave simply to keep themselves distant from the controversy between the Incharge CEO and the Chairman.

Meanwhile, no further action was initiated by the government so far over the suggestion made by the Wakf Board and purportedly wants the Incharge CEO to decide the name of a suitable candidate for the post.

People, well acquainted with the affairs of the board, are on the view that the Telangana government should either conferred full charge to the present Incharge CEO Shahnawaz Qasim or appoint a Special Officer so to ensure that the regular activities of the board should not get disturbed as the vested interest may take advantage of the situation and caused heavy damage to the already exploited institution.

“The Incharge CEO Shahnawaz Qasim is no doubt a duty-bound official and that has actually gone wrong with some of the other officials and members at the helm of affairs in the board. After taking charge, the Incharge CEO invested much of his time on improving the revenue of the board and he is quite hell-bent on increasing the rents of whatever properties have left behind, ” explained a wakf activist.

“The official knows it very well that the financial stability of the board is crucial,” he said, adding that “The board is failing in fulfilling the very purpose of its establishment in the absence of sufficient funds through direct sources and became impoverished due to ever increasing onslaught of the land sharks and the vested interest.
