DH Asks People to Protect Themselves from Seasonal Diseases

Director of Public Health (DH) Dr. Srinivasa Rao today asked the people to protect themselves from seasonal diseases by taking requisite steps.

He cautioned that the people should take precautions while drinking water and eating food and ensure that their food and water did not get contaminated due to the ongoing incessant rains.

Speaking to media persons today, he said contamination of the food and water would lead to the spreading of viral fevers in the State. He said Health Minister T. Harish Rao already held a meeting with the DMHOs of all the districts and issued orders to be prepared to face the monsoon season. Dr Rao said they would hold anti-larva operations to prevent the spread of mosquitoes in the State. He said the State had registered thousands of dengue fever cases in 2019 before the deadly coronavirus hit the State and added that the dengue fever also claimed some lives.

1184 dengue fever cases registered

Dr. Rao said the State had registered 1184 dengue fever cases from January this year till now. He said of the total dengue fever cases, Hyderabad registered the highest number of 516 dengue fever cases. He said the State registered 222 dengue fever cases in the first 10 days of the ongoing July month. He said they had initiated steps to put a check on the rising number of dengue fever cases and added that they had asked the DMHOs to increase the number of anti-larval operations in association with municipal, panchayat Raj department authorities.

Commenting on the registration of malaria cases, he said the malaria cases were being reported from three districts in the State and added that their number was growing in Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.

Dr Rao said typhoid cases were also seeing an increase in their number this year. He said the State registered 2700 typhoid cases in May and 2752 cases in June this year. He urged the people to observe dry day in their homes to keep the seasonal diseases at bay.

Covid is now a seasonal disease

 Commenting on the Covid virus, he said the Covid disease had turned into a seasonal disease now and added that none should be worried about the virus now although the number of positive cases of the Covid virus had gone up in the last six weeks. He said the Covid disease had now reached the stage of endemic.

He said it would be enough for the Covid-positive patients should be in quarantine for only five days. He said those who did not exhibit any Covid virus related symptoms, should undergo any clinical investigations according to the new guidelines of World Health Organisation (WHO). He made it clear that the Covid-positive patients with respiratory problems should alone require hospitalization for the treatment of their problem.
