DRDO Township celebrates 151st Gandhi Jayanti on a grand note

Hyderabad: Glowing tributes were paid to the Father of the Nation on the occasion of the 151st  birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in DRDO Township here on Friday.

Organized under the aegis of Estate Management Unit (R&D), the DRDO chief guest on the occasion, Dr Nagasuri Venugopal, Assistant Director of All India Radio, Hyderabad, an authority on the embodiment of non-violence, extolled the younger generation in particular to emulate the simplicity with which Gandhi ji achieved Independence for India.

He said that the Mahatma was able to inspire every Indian to strive for winning independence without any violent means of resistance despite aggression and victimization on the part of the British.

Stating that Gandhi after displaying unbelievable bravery while taking on the racist South African government in their land, he said that Gandhi joined the independence struggle after meeting Gopalakrishna Gokhale. He gave a new dimension to the struggle and spurred nationwide collectivism, which culminated with August 15, 1947, Red Letter Day.

In his welcome address, program host, and Assistant CCE and Estate Manager, Shaik Ghouse Mohiddin said that they strictly followed Gandhi’s call for maintaining cleanliness (swachh) at every level. He said it was because of the preventive measures that were put in place and the dedication of the staff-volunteers that the entire township was safe from the Covid-19 pandemic. Greenery and keeping the environment clean was an everyday ritual at the Township, he said.

Mohiddin pointed out that the Union Government has urged every Central organization to periodically conduct cleanliness drives, which DRDO was doing with consistency.

Earlier, the chief guest and members of the organizing committee, including Ms Anuradha Pandey, offered a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by garlanding his picture.
Later, school students who had topped in various competitions themed around Gandhiji were given prizes. Ms. Renuka Kulkarni proposed a vote of thanks.
